Online Appointments and Prescription requests

We see you've found the website, how about registering with us for online access to

Appointments & Prescription Requests?

Ask one of our staff at reception and we can give you a unique username and password for you to register. Once this is activated you can book an appointment or request your repeat prescriptions online, saving any problems getting through on the phones or coming into surgery in person. If a medication needs a review you may be recalled to see one of our doctors or nurses to ensure there are no problems with the medications themselves or the amounts you are prescribed.

APPOINTMENTS: Always a difficult issue but in the last year this has been a particularly challenging at the practice and across the NHS.

Patient need for appointments is much greater and unfortunately, like many surgeries, we have unfilled vacancies and are continuing to advertise in order to offer Continuity of Care through permanently appointed staff members.

Despite this smaller workforce we have continued to offer more appointments year on year:

2020: 48,112 appointments (not including COVID vaccinations)

2021: 50,625 appointments (not including COVID vaccinations)

2022: 51,183 appointments (not including COVID vaccinations)

We look forward to a time when our team is fully staffed once again and thank you for your kindness and understanding as and when getting an appointment is difficult.

Face-to-face, Telephone, Online, Patient Choice

Appointments are available each day as either book-ahead appointments or on-the-day appointments.

Within these types you could choose a face-to-face appointment, a telephone appointment or our 'Patient Choice' appointments- you choose what's most convenient for you.

If our clinician feels we need to see you in surgery, we will convert your telephone appointment into a face-to-face encounter to carry out the necessary examination in surgery.

Not been given Antibiotics?

Coming down with an infection? It's important to save precious antibiotics for bacterial infections that will get better with them, and not to use them for viral infections where they could just add diarrhoea to the problem rather than make the infection better.

You can find some leaflets here in various languages to help.

Also there's our 24/7 advice clip on worrying signs of infection in children.

Your say: 2016

You gave us your views at our Saturday flu clinic on 1st October 2016, just like in 2014.

We asked you what single thing you liked best about the practice, and what single thing you would change.

Here are the summaries of the responses: (word size indicates how often they were included in responses)

What single thing do you like about the practice?

Number of responses: 56

Thankyou for the personal comments relating to particular staff members; we won't embarrass them publicly by naming them on here but they are all very grateful for your kind responses.

What single thing would you change about the practice?

Number of responses: 36
  • As expected, 'appointments' is still the commonest thing patients would change. At the moment the appointments system is arranged so that a third of our appointments are book-ahead (eg next week, next fortnight etc) and a two-thirds are same-day appointments. This was to assist the burden on A&E departments, (with evidence of a reduced attendance at A&E by patients registered at our practice). Demand for face-to-face appointments are high and space is limited. We have recently appointed 2 new Doctors at the surgery to help improve our supply of appointments.

We allocate our appointments for the full day from 8am; (a change to the system started in April 2016, see Practice News).

  • We will try to establish a system where we can let you know if a Dr or nurse is running late, and by how long. We hope we are worth the wait.

Suggestions if you are struggling to get an appointment:

  • Registering for online appointments and booking online; these appointments are all available in advance; nearly 1500 patients have registered for this service and we continue to receive really positive experiences using it!
  • Asking for a telephone consultation with the GP or nurse; we offer telephone appointments every morning and evening.

Your say: 2014

We asked for your views on things you like and things you would change at Horseley Heath at our Saturday flu clinic on 25/10/14. This is what you said:

(Size of words indicate how often they were mentioned in replies)

Things patients like: 49 replies
Things patients would change: 17 replies

Thankyou for your generous and kind feedback, we're very pleased to see how often 'reception staff' 'doctors' and 'all staff' were rated as 'friendly' 'great' and 'helpful'

As expected, 'appointments' is the commonest thing patients would change. At the moment the appointments system is arranged so that a third of our appointments are book-ahead (eg next week, next fortnight etc) and a two-thirds are same-day appointments. This was changed from the previous half-and-half format to assist the burden on A&E departments, (with evidence of a reduced attendance at A&E by patients registered at our practice). Demand for face-to-face appointments are high and space is limited.

Suggestions if you are struggling to get an appointment:

-Registering for online appointments and booking online

-Asking for a telephone consultation with the GP or nurse.
